There is a group, with the rather over-militaristic name the Cornish Republican Army. It`s aims are to keep Cornwall for itself, and promised to carry out acts of vandalism against things construed as "English" which, being as they are in England, could mean everything from the streets they stand on to the grass in the fields.
Now, this is dismissed as a silly thing, and is often thought to be the result of a spoof, but it is in one way an exemplification of how much the locals of Cornwall love their land, and there is good reason for this, with the area a place of outstanding natural beauty. This also makes it very attractive for holiday makers wanting to keep within the borders of England - well, the "current" borders, as the CRA would no doubt have it!
Anyway, Cornwall, and south-east Cornwall in particular, whether you are looking for a winter or summer getaway, can be an ideal location. Overall, you might say there is something for everyone, from sandy beaches and quiet towns to excellent night life to some of the best surf in Britain. Adrenaline Quarry will also be a must for thrill seekers, with the longest zip line in Britain and a special Hovercraft Flying School there, making for lots of energetic fun.
As you might expect from a touristy area, there are many eateries, from intimate, cottage-like restaurants serving local produce, to bigger, more haute cuisine type places. There are also a great range of coffee houses and cafes to top up on snacks and get your caffeine fix during the day.
One of the bonuses of all this choice of places to eat is that it makes self-catering accommodation more attractive than normal. www.cornishcollection.co.uk is one of the best sites for looking for self-catering accommodation. It can offer everything from quaint cottages to sleek, modern apartments, all around the ancient ports of Looe and Polperro. You can easily book up on-line, making it easy to browse, select and pay for your accommodation.
Cornwall, being tucked away down the bottom of our isle, need not be difficult to get to. Trains run to Cornwall from all over the country, and the area is well linked to the motorway network. Furthermore, Exeter flights operated by Flybe are another means by which to arrive relatively close to Cornwall from further afield.
In all, Cornwall is a beautiful and fun getaway for anyone, young or old, and if you want a holiday that won`t necessarily break the bank in these economic times, then look no further than Cornwall
